Who’s waiting for the next big Android update? Let’s hear some insiders!
Rumoured to be codenamed “Tiramisu“, Android 13 is expected to launch around Q4 2022.
While only a few recently launched flagship smartphones have received the Android 12 update, most devices are still waiting for the update from quite some time.
After all, that’s how the market grows! Smartphone users keep waiting to receive the latest Android updates, however, most smartphones devices are eligible to receive updates for a maximum of only 2 years. Thus, out of frustration, users have no other option but forcefully purchase new smartphones to obtain the latest updates.
Anyways, talking a little about why the name “Tiramisu”. Since Android 10, the general public only knows the Android versions by the numerical digit. So would be the case with Android 13 as well! Google has established the internal code name for Android 13 “Tiramisu”.
Key-guard user profile switcher
Android 13 might introduce a key-guard profile switcher to let you easily switch to a different user profile before unlocking it. It will appear on the PIN/Password entry page and let you easily switch to a different profile from a drop-down menu. However, we still have to hear if this would be available for both mobile and tablet devices.
Home button Assistant toggle
This new setting in Android 13 will let you disable the home button gesture to trigger Google Assistant. Moreover, this setting will appear inside the System Navigation Settings.
Multi-user NFC Payments
Contactless payments via NFC have become very common across the globe and as most of us know, Android 12 has certain restrictions to the multi-user support feature i.e. secondary user profiles. Now, with Android 13 multiple users can make NFC payments on-the-go.
Native support for DNS over HTTPS
Android has supported DNS over TLS only for quite a while and now with Android 13, it is expected that they would provide native support for DNS over HTTPS with enhanced security.
Full Support for Bluetooth LE Audio
Android 13 would target support for Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) Audio transmission , a standard for low power audio transmission over Bluetooth. This is a massive announcement as until now, Bluetooth LE was used only for data transmission and not audio.
App Languages
With Android 13, users will find a new option to use certain apps in their own preferred languages i.e. multi-lingual app support. Google is working on this new feature codenamed “Pan-lingual”, which would be found under Languages & Input > App Language.
Runtime Permission for Notifications
There are plans to add a new runtime permission for app and post notifications. This means this would become and opt-in feature during app installation and set up. Users can choose if they wish to allow an app to send notifications to their device.
TARE: The Android Resource Economy
Android 13 is expected to bring a strong energy management feature that will let applications make the most optimal use of available battery life on the smartphone device. In addition, TARE is expected to work through features likes AlarmManager and JobScheduler policies.
Lock Screen Clock Layouts
Nowadays, most smart devices have introduced ways to customise and change the clock layouts. Similarly, Android 13 would provide users options to customise the lock screen clock layout with different custom skins. Certain skins would be available for free while other premium skins can be purchased via PlayStore. There are chances that this might be introduced in Android 12L as well!
